Most of the information contained in
this Report has already been communicated in
the various Diaries, etc., received throughout
the year.
All the Political Agents have the
same story to tell - that the year 1930 has
been one of the worst that British trade has
ever experienced. The Russians have improved
their trading position, and are likely to make
still further headway if the present Persian
restrictive laws remain in force; a system of
barter suits their trading methods.
Opium has again been selected by the
Persian Government for increased taxation.
They are said to be making no effort to reduce
poppy cultivation and it seems unlikely that
they will do so if they can obtain the

This volume contains copies of the annual 'Administration Reports of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ' prepared by the Political Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in Bushire and printed at the Government of India Press in New Delhi for the years 1926-1938.

These annual reports are divided up into a number of separate reports for different geographical areas, usually as follows:

These separate reports are themselves broken down into a number of sub-sections including the following:

  • Foreign Interests
  • Local Government
  • Military
  • Communications
  • Trade Developments
  • Slavery

The reports are all introduced by a short review of the year written by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. .
