1. Reference I. S. 41, paragraph 1. Karim Khan returned to the
Persian border on December 2nd and fought with Government troops. The
fighting, which lasted several hours, resulted in casualties to both sides.. Karim
Khan lost S killed and several wounded. Persian troops suffered 2 killed and
no wounded.
A report which lacks confirmation states that the Bolshevik troops from
Russian Sarakhs, acting on instructions from Tashkent, have taken Karim
Khan prisoner and that he will be handed over to the Persian authorities.
According to a statement made by the Amir Lashkar, Karim Khan fled to
Russian territory at the instigation of the Bolsheviks who have been giving
the former both moral and material support. Although anxious acout the
present situation, the Amir Lashkar does not anticipate that it will reach very
serious proportions.
2. Reference I. S. 40, paragraph 3. . The Chief of Police reports that
nothing further has been heard regarding the arrival of Enver
Pasha

3. A report from Lutfabad dated 26th Tsovember states that all frontier
posts from Artik to Dushak have been increased by 30 men in order to cope
with the smuggling traffic.
4. JEtussian Savakhs, November 20th. —It is now confirmed that 400 troops
with three machine guns arrived at Russian Sarakhs on November 25th from
Tashkent. This post has been reinforced in view of the present situation at
Persian Sarakhs.
5. Krasnovodsk, November ^.—Reference I. S. 40, paragraph 10. The
number of workers at the oil tanks has oeen increased to 2,000.
6. Live Turks arrived at Krasnovodsk from Baku on November 20th.
They are stated to be persons of considerable importance owing to the respect
accorded to them on arrival. Their destination is believed to be Afghanistan.
7. Kerki, November 26th. —Reference I. S. 40, paragraph 23. In con
tinuation of the frontier posts mentioned therein the following posts between
Kilif and Kerki have been identified :—

8. Kushk, November 28th—Nn urgent message was sent from Kushk to
Termez on November 28th, to the effect that owing to rebel activities all piL.vio.us
orders regarding measures to be adopted to prevent the possibility of surprise
attack were being strictly adhered to. The message concluded by stating that
affairs near Bokhara were unsatisfactory.
9. Merv 3 November 30th. —The following movements by rail through
Merv are recorded:—
17 ^.-—Troop train ^-Tashkent 100 Cavalry, 200 Infantry,
four heavy guns, 100 bags flour and barley and 16 horses. The
troops were all Russians, and were en route Takhta Bazar.
ber 19th. —Troop train ^-Kushk en route Tashkent, after relief
400 Mohammedan troops of No. 9 and No. 12 Uzbeg Piegiments.

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
