Mohammedan volunteers for service in Turkey.
J?orty more joined the train at Merv (since confirmed from Krasnovodsk),
November 23rd .—Troop train e^-Merv. Two hundred soldiers, three
wagons containing flour, 30 boxes ammunition and 30 labourers;
all en route to Takhta Bazar.
10. A train containing stores for Kushk with two officers and 10 soldiers,
was derailed south of Yolatan on November 25th. Several passengers were
injured. The line was still blocked on November 26th.
11. Reference I. S. 41, paragraph 15. Khawja Quli is reported to have
attacked on November 23rd, the two railway stations Jujukli and Karri Bata
between Tejend and Merv. The railway officials escaped but the buildings
were completely wrecked. The railway line was left untouched.
Bokhara.
12. Reference I. S. 40, paragraph 16. The newly appointed Afghan
Consul to Bokhara is Sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. Juma Khan who has until recently been officiat
ing assistant Governor of Mazar-i-Sharif (see Who’s Who, Afghanistan, 555).
13. Reference I. S. 41, paragraph 16. The names of the Bokharan
representatives appointed to Baku and Askabad are, Baku, Mir Hasan, and
Askabad, Abdul Jaffar. The name of the proposed Meshed representative has
not yet been ascertained.
14. Affairs in Bokhara are described as getting worse and reports of
continued fighting near Bokhara have been received. The railway line is
strictly guarded but all the important villages within 20 miles of Bokhara city
are stated to be in the hands of the rebels.
Fighting south of Samarkand is also in progress. Kitab was captured by
the rebels on November 20tb, and was still in their possession on November
22nd. The possibility of their being able to retain possession is stated to be
very small.
15. Reference I. S. 41, paragraph 20. The only Shia left in Bolshevik
employment is Astana Qul.
Tashkent.
16. Two military commissars named Denisoff and Baktiroff, who were
found m possession of documents which proved that they were in touch wffh
the rebel movement, have been shot.
17. A German trading agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. has been opened in Tashkent and the first
consignment of goods has arrired. It is intended to link up this business with
Afghanistan and Persia.
