Krasnovodsk, 10th September. —800 Infantry, 200 Cavalry of the 6th Turkestan Reserve
Regiment; mostly Muhammadans. 3 guns, 2 machine guns, 1 armoured car, 1 plane.
Kushk, 4th September. —6,500 Infantry, 1,500 Cavalry ; mostly Muhammadans. 18 guns,
7 machine guns, 2 armoured cars, 3 planes.
Charjui, 7th September. —5,000 Infantry, 1,000 Cavalry, 1,800 Marines. 10 guns, 9 machine
guns, 1 armoured car, 3 planes. 1,500 of the above force are at Old Charjui, and 250 with 1 gun
and 1 machine^un are guarding the Charjui Bridge.
Karakul, 11th September. —1,850 Cavalry and Infantry belonging to a Simbirsk Regiment

The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
