APPENDIX I.
Garrisons.
Krasnvodsk, May 10th. —600 Infantry, 150 Cavalry, mostly Russians. 5 guns (2 large),
3 machine guns, 1 armoured car, 1 aeroplane. Warship in harbour, which patrols for smug
glers.
Kizil Arvat, May M.—600 Infantry, 200 Cavalry, mostly Mohamedans. 3 guns, 2 machine
guns.
Kara Kola, May M.—250 Infantry and Cavalry with 2 machine guns.
Takhta Bazar, May 12th.—im Infantry, 250 Cavalry of the 9th Kagan Regiment (1st
Red. Div.), mostly Mohamedans. 5 guns, 6 machine guns, 1 armoured car, 2 aeroplanes.
At Maruchack. —250 troops with 1 gun and 2 machine gun's.
Yolatan, May 17th—2,20 Cavalry and Infantry with 4 machine guns. These troops have
recently arrived as a guard against Tejend rebels.
Merv, May 16th.—1,100 Infantry, 400 Cavalry, mostly Mohamedans. Troops comprise
the 4th Semirechia Regiment, which replaced the old garrison troops sent to Samarkand on the
6th May. Commander Nikolai Shlayoff. 6 guns, 4 machine guns, 1 armoured car, 1 aeroplane.
Bokhara, May 12th.—2,000 Infantry, 1,000 Cavalry. 1,500 of garrison are Young Bokha
rans, mostly Mohamedans. There are 6,000 Bolshevik troops at Kagan. At Bokhara, 6 guns,
4 machine guns, 2 armoured cars, 1 aeroplane.
Guzar, May 11th. —2,000 Infantry, 1,000 Cavalry, mostly Mohamedans. Town is entrench
ed and wired. 9 guns, 12 machine guns, 2 armoured cars, 2 aeroplanes.* Commander, Pravshin.
Samarkand, May 13th— q,7)00 Infantry, 2,500 Cavalry, mostly Mohamedans; Regiments
are the 1st Orenburg, 3rd Samara and two others. Commander Kerchinski. 18 guns, 12 machine
guns, 2 armoured cars, 2 aeroplanes. The fort between the old and new town is wired on all
sides and has three guns on the walls. Only Russians and Jews in fort.
Jizak, May 10th. —400 Infantry, 100 Cavalry of the 5th Cherniyevo Regiment, mostly
Russians, who replaced the Mohamedan garrison. Commander Alexai Basgiroff. 3 guns
4 machine guns, 1 aeroplane. •
Chinaz, May 12th. —375 Infanlry, 125 Cavalry, mostly Mohamedans. 3 guns, 2 machine
guns, 1 aeroplane. Garrrison is used to guard the bridge over the River Sir, and the Railway
station.

Note. —Most of the troops throughout Turkestan have been issued with new summer cloth
ing, and in many places, new boots.
