7. Bokhara, 20th May. —Military stores from Bokhara have been moved to
Kagan. Since the Bolshevik occupation of the Government Departments, prices
of foodstuffs have been doubled.
8. Kazim Beg who was a Young Bokharan official (Supply Officer) escaped
with 300 sowars from Bokhara to the Khivan frontier, when the Bolsheviks arrived
with troops to take over the Government posts. He had been secretly sending
arms and ammunition away for three months before his desertion. Kazim Beff°
who is a relation of Osman Beg, Kush Begi, has now 1,000 men under his command
and occupies Burdaliq on the Khivan frontier.
9. On the 18th May the rebels were retreating from near Bokhara to the direc
tion of Shahr-i-Sabz. Bolsheviks are sending reinforcements daily to Karshi.
10. Guzar, 13th May. —On the 10th May 6,000 rebels attacked Shahr-i-Sabz.
and it is said occupied the town after fierce fighting. Many Bolshevik wounded
arrived at Guzar and were sent to Karshi. The rebels intend to hold Shahr-i-Sabz
and continue the advance towards Bokhara. The Bolsheviks are digging trenches
between Guzar and Karshi.
11. The railway line from Karshi to Guzar is now in working order. The line
from Karshi to Kirki is complete to within 30 versts of Kirki.
Samakkand.
12. 13th May. —A band of rebels from Shahr-i-Sabz has joined the local
elements, who are attacking and plundering villages. Samarkand has been attack
ed, but the rebels were driven off by the Bolsheviks who failed to follow them into
the mountains.
Ferghana.
13. Khojent, 14th May. —Train loads of wounded are arriving daily from
Andijan and Marghilan areas. The rebels occupy all places off the railway line
and incessantly attack the Bolsheviks who are holding the railway. The aim of
the rebels is to harass the Bolsheviks to such an extent that they will be forced to
evacuate Ferghana.
14. Men from 18 to 45 are being forcibly enlisted and sent at once to Tashkent.
Central Russia.
15. Perovsk, 3rd ifnz/.—Recruiting by force of all men from 16 to 35 has been
ordered. An announcement was made on the 15th April that the Bolshevik army,
which numbers 1,500,000 must be increased to 2,000,000 by the end of May. The
announcement was printed in several languages.

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
