Shahr-i-sabz, Four thousand Infantry, 2,000 Cavalry, 2,500 of whom are
Young Bokharans of the 5th New Bokharan Regiment.* Bolshevik regiments are the 3rd
Chermyevo, oth Orenburg (from Tashkent), and 11th Turkestan. Fifteen guns, 12 machine
guns, 2 armoured cars, 2 aeroplanes. Defences are 2 miles from town, 3 sides of which are
entrenched and wired.
Tashkent, May 2nd.—Wme thousand and three hundred Infantry, 700 Cavalry • mostly
Mohamedans, and 5.000 of whom are recruits. Nine guns, 12 machine guns, 3 armoured cars,
3 aeroplanes. The old troops have been supplied with new clothes.
KhoJcand, April 29tJi. Six thousand Infantry, 1,500 Cavalry, mostlv Mohamedans
There are 4 regiments but only the 2nd Orenburg and the 11th 'Tashkent identified. New
clothes have been issued to the troops. Twelve guns, 16 machine guns. 3 armoured cars,
3 aeroplanes, i hree Hospitals full of wounded, number given being 1,000; fresh cases are sent to
lasnkent.
Chief of Staff of the 3rd Red Division, headquarters of which is at Khokand, is Alexandra
nelinoff.
Orenburg, May Snd.-Four thousand Infantry, 450 Cavalry, mostly Mohamedans.
Regiments are 9th Orenburg (Commander, Fedroff) and the 7th Tashkent (Commander
fehakiroil). The 5th Samara Regiment, Commander Koleseff, left for Tashkent at the end of
April. Twelve guns, 9 machine guns, 2 armoured cars, 1 aeroplane.
Samara, April 22nd .—Two thousand and five hundred Infantry, 5,000 Cavalrv, 1,000
Marines. Twelve guns, 8 machine guns, 2 armoured cars, 2 aeroplanes. Ammunition factory An East India Company trading post.

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
