KHawanin sowars have been sent to every Governor of the Herat
province with orders from the Naib-ul-Hukumeh that public roads must
be thoroughly repaired by the public.
xiii. On the 3rd Colonel Abdul Rahim Khan reported from Childukh-
teran that 20 Jamshedi families with their flocks have emigrated from Rus
sian territory to Afghanistan. They have been settled in Badghast., They
complain that the Bolsheviks treat Muslims cruelly and show them no
respect.
xiv. A Kabul farman demands 30 sons of Herat Khawanin for educa
tion in Kabul whence in time they will be sent abroad.
xv. It is remoured in Herat that the morsemen of Shuja-ul-Mulk
when returning to Persia fought with frontier Afghan horsemen.; One
Afghan is believed to have been /wounded.,

The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
