News of Shaukat-ul-Mulk’s movement North is not available. He fo
reputed to be able to dispose of 4,000 men. Their armament will be inferior
to that of Muhammad Taqi Khan’s force.
DISPOSITIONS.
September 20th.
Turbat-i-Sheikh /am.—Two hundred mounted, 300 foot, 2 guns, 5*
machine guns under Captain Muhammad Khan.
Muhammaddbad. —Seven Infantry.
Kalandarabad. —Saiad Murtaza and his retainers.
Qala Naor —Seven Infantry.
Fariman. —Twelve Infantry.
Fragird. —Twelve Infantry.
Sangbast. —Five Infantry, 3 mounted men.
All other villages in the Turbat-i-Sheikh Jam area.—Three to four men.
On the 18th, as a result of an engagement near Muhammadabad, Turbat-
i-Sheikh Jam was occupied. The opposing forces were : Gendarmes, 200
mounted, 300 foot, 2 guns, 5 machine guns, under Captain Muhammad Hussein
Khan. The tribesmen numbered 400 horsemen under Salar Khan Baloch,
Jafar Khan, Kandan Khan Timuri, and Ghulam Shah Barbari.
After their defeat the tribesmen retreated to Tangtagharu on the Afghan-
frontier.
Two hundred Infantry and 30 horsemen of Saiad Haidar’s and Shuja-ul-
Mulk’s men are on the Turbat-i-Haidari front.
There is an impression among the tribesmen that Muhammad Taqi Khan
is being assisted in his operations against them by the British. They claim that
his armament and large supplies of ammunition are a proof of this.
Karez on the Afghan border was occupied on the 18th and not on the 11th
as previously reported.
Sabzeioar Front. —September 15th.
Abbasabad. —Three hundred mounted, 2 guns, 2 machine guns. No field
works. Troops in the fort.
Mazinan. —Three hundred infantry, mostly Barbaris, under Captain
Ahmad Khan and Lieutenant Abdulla. No field works. Troops in the fort.
Sabzewar. —Twenty-five troops including 10 mounted.
Nishapur. —Twelve and one non-commissioned officer. The headquarters-
of this force are at Mazinan under Lieutenant-Colonel Ismail Khan.
Meshed. —A recent parade showed about 300 troops, not including
recruits.
Muhammad Taqi Khan has promoted all officers of the Khorasan Gendar*-
merie a step, including two to Lieutenant-Colonel—Majors Ismail Khan and
Mahmud Khan. A doctor attached to the force he has created a major.
THE NATIONALIST PARTY, OR MILYUN.
This party prepared a proclamation declaring Khorasan a Republic but
Muhammad Taqi Khan has delayed the publication of the notices for the present.
A. national flag for Khorasan is in course of design. Muhammad Taqi Khan
is said to be in favour of the project as it will ally him with others striving for
similar ends in other parts of Persia.
The party is urging Muhammad Taqi Khan to establish close trade relations
with Russia. He, on the other hand, has ordered it to abolish its Anarchist
bianch and to give access to his representative at all its meetings.-
