relations with the Bolsheviks were becoming firmer and more cordial every
day. He expected soon to establish friendly relations with Persia, as well as
with Italy and France. Internally the Turks were absolutely in accord and
there were no differences to divide them.
(viii) Financial help for the Turks.— The Indian Muslims had subscribed
six lakhs One lakh is equal to one hundred thousand rupees of rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. up to the end of the Hijra year also five thousand blankets
for the relief of homeless Turks in Smyrna and Constantinople.
{ix) A strange discovery .—A police officer of the United States has dis
covered a gas which temporarily paralyzes a man’s hands and legs. Great
riots can be controlled by the use of this gas.
(x) Spanish troops defeated in Morocco .—Owing to inefficient leadership,
the Spanish troops in Morocco have been badly defeated. The number of
casualties in dead, wounded, and prisoners, amounts to 10,000. Great dissen
sions are apparent in the Spanish army.
{xi) The British Foreign Minister’s Hostility to the Turks .—Lord Curzon
is misleading France with respect to the Turks by means of false stories.
(xi'i) Iraq .—According to English news agencies, the Emir Feisul, son
of Sharif Hasan, who is a servant and friend of the English, has been elected
King of Iraq by 96 per cent, of the public votes.
His coronation was to have taken place on the 23rd August but before that
date, in place of peace and quiet in Iraq, a formidable rising has occurred.
Aeroplanes bombed the tribesmen for a week without any tangible result. On
the 21st July Kurd Cossacks attacked the police and disarmed them. They
assassinated the commandant and occupied Kewandur. From 2nd to 12th
August Eewandur and Batias were attacked by a force under Colonel
Moberley but without any success.

(xiv) The Graeco-Turkish War .—The defeat of the Turkish Nationalists
and the advance of the Greeks. Angora is on the verge of falling to Greek
arms. This news is lies, concocted for the purpose of agitating Muslims.
An American who has recently arrived from Angora states that large
quantities of war material come into Anatolia Peninsula that forms most of modern-day Turkey. , probably from Russia. The
Turks are quite confident of final success.
O?) Greece and England.—Though, the English have often declared
themselves to be neutral in the Graeco-Turkish War it is for show and not
genuine. It has been proved beyond a doubt that Greek ships, loaded with
arms,, have been allowed to pass the Dardanelles with the permission of the
English. If the English are neutral why do they let these ships pass the
Dardanelles ? It is perfectly evident that the English are secretly helping the
Greeks. We are confident that when the Kemalists have defeated the Greeks
