untold troubles. The wealthy and the capifcahsts begin to live a life of comfort from their
infancy and continue to do so till their death. They do no work but employ others to work for
them. It would seem only just that the wealthy and the capitalists should lead a miserable life
for they do not work for their living. On the contrary, it is those who work who are in trouble
and in misery.
What is the cause, what is the reason of this Unfair difference ? What is the root of this
evil ? The reason is this that m ancient times a class of people wielded power and took the reins
of Government into their own hands, becoming owners of land and rulers of people. They falsely
impressed on their subjects their dupes that all their troubles were God's punishment for
their sins.
These so-called world rulers imposed taxes and extracted revenue from their poor subjects
spending the proceeds on their personal comforts. The capitalist waxed fat at the expense of
labourers and farmers. These latter, these oppressed creatures, never became conscious of their
privileges and were never able to realise the root cause of their miseries.
Yet with a little deep thought man can easily understand these things.
See for yourselves how all the land belongs to the landlords: how all the mines and contracts

Shamelessness of the British.
The Russian Republic has protested to the British Government for its silent approval of
Japanese action in joining hands with the enemies of the Bolsheviks.

III. The Amir’s speech, which was delivered in Kabul on the occasion of the Id, expressed
greetings to all his audience and invoked the blessings of God on the Muslim world in general
and on the Afghan nation in particular. “ I am thinking,” the Amir said, “ that I should embrace
mv brethren assembled here, one and all, and thus offer them my ’/d greetings but, praise be to
God, the congregation is large and though I could wish it still larger, time will not allow me to
salute everybody individually. I therefore content myself with greeting everybody here ver
bally. During the last two years that I, the helpless, with the grace of God, have been your ruler
and King, I have never shrunk from discharging affairs entrusted to me by you. God is my
witness and he suffices. I have always considered home and foreign affairs to be more important
than my own life for in them is involved your welfare. From the time you knew me as Ain-ud-
Daulah down to the present there has been one, and only one, point of view for me and that is
that the Afghan nation should enjoy unbroken peace, rest, and prosperity. To achieve this end,
I had to select one highway which should lead the nation to the pinnacle of civilization. It
I have found at hand in the domain of religion. All my programme of administration has been
made out in conformity with religious laws which give no opportunity to the tyrant for oppres
sing the poor. I trust that all who are in power and in office will execute that programme
properly.”
The Amir concluded I is speech by saying that even he, a ruler, would not dare hit anybody
without he expected to receive punishment for his act. The Afghan nation was a free
nation which should live a free life according to the laws of Almighty God.
