Hunger has always been a trusty ally of the bourgeoisie in its struggle with the proletariat
With the assistance of hunger the capitalists have driven the workers back into their mills and fae
tories, forcing them to work there. Beneath the scourge of hunger, the proletariat has bowed
its proud head to the insolent will of . those who exploit them. And the bourgeoisie are fullv
aware of this. It, too, knows that the best way to bind the working man hand and foot is to
starve him.

customary potency when carried out in conditions of universal proletarian revolution. The
miners’ victorious fight furnishes the most convincing proof of that. The bourgeoisie has
proved itself beaten in this fight. The proletariat has triumphed. It is probably a matter
of assurance that even in the m. st prol nged struggle, victory will be with the working classes
in the end and that even the lock-out will ultimately prove an advantage to them. For every
such lock-out will tend to destroy, or at least to stagger to their foundations, capitalistic econo
mics.
The bourgeoisie have felled the wood of which its chair is fashioned. It follows as a matter
of course that the proletariat will collect all its forces to break that chair as quickly as possible.
That putrescent, yet living, capitalism will not succeed in saving the bourgeoisie bv any
system of lock-outs. The growth of the revolutionary power of the proletariat cannot be
stayed by any lock-out.
Everything is weighed and predestined. The furious rage of the bourgeoisie only testifies
to its consciousness of a speedy and imminent downfall.
