(xiv) Two armed messengers, Afghans, have arrived from the Afghan
Consul at Tashkent with a letter which was to be sent to Kabul. With them
was an Indian who was unable to converse without an interpreter. Be wishes
to be sent to Kabul at once in order to arrange for the transport there of an
engine, or other machinery, for which rails would have to be laid from *
Kushk. He would have to use the same rails over and over again, by undoing
them when his engine had moved over them and laying them again for the
next forward move. He was asked if camels w r ould not serve his purpose but
replied that individual sections of his machine would be too heavy for camel
transport- The'man had not been in India except once in 14 years. He left
for Kabul on the 8th.
(xv) The Naib Salar selected 250 of his best soldiers and issued to them
blank ammunition for a demonstration practice of the infantry attack. He
afterwards gave a lecture to the other men of his command who had been
spectators, bidding them profit by the lesson afforded them.
(xvi) The artillery practice camp was still in progress wherr the report
left Herat for Meshed.

The first heavy blow—the beginning of the end.
Chita. —14th June. After again bombarding the Whiteguards along the
whole Troitsko-Savski front, the troops of the Red Revolutionary army of the
Par East Republic assumed the offensive and defeated the enemy. Continuing
their advance the national troops threw the detachments of the Whiteguards
into a panic-stricken flight. The banditti of Ungern (See Intelligence
Summary, No. 24, page Y) under his personal command and to the number of
the 1st and 2ud Cavalry Regiments with 6 guns and machine guns, were
defeated and fled. Five guns, ammunition wagons, shells and other property,
were captured from him. An energetic pursuit continues*
Congratulations to the Heroes.
Chita. —14th. The President of the Conference of the Far Eastern Com
munist party has sent his congratulations to the troops fighting against the
Whiteguards on the Troitsko-Savski front.

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
