2. The Bolshevik authorities are inciting the poor to assist the food
detachments in looking for provisions in the territory of Beg’s and village
food hoarders.
Extract from the “ Izvestia,” Tashkent, dated 17th February 1921.
The “ Daily Herald ” states that a conference of British Communists was
held in Leeds. 150 delegates from the Communist party were present and
other groups were represented. Jack Tanner, president of the conference stated
that their main task was the struggle against Capitalists. Reports were read
by Lickie, the representative of the Communist working party. Watkinson
of the Communist party, and McManus of the Communist party, of Great
Britain. McManus was elected president of the party with 17 members as
a temporary Executive Committee. The party is to be named “ The United
Communist party of Great Britain.”

1. At the Constituent Assembly in the Troitzko Savski it was decided to
protect the interests of the working classes of the Far East and Soviet
Russia, and not enter into any relations with any counter-revolutionary
groups and hand in hand with the faction of revolutionary peasantry to
protect the independence of the Far East Republic.
2. A member of the Revolutionary Council of the Turkistan Military
Front has returned from a visit to the Eastern front. He states that territory
occupied by the Amir decreases daily. He has only 500 regular troops.
Inhabitants of the villages and towns, who were evacuated by the Amir’s
bands are gradually returning, as for instance in Kerki. The Amir is not
popular amongst the inhabitants. Tribes in Eastern Bokhara are prepared
to join the revolutionaries. The Revolutionary troops have shown wonders
and bravery.

We have defeated the Basmatch in Jida Kopa region. Our troops have
occupied Bish Kopa. Enemy casualties 30 men and 5 horses. On Ferghana
* front our troops have defeated Basmatch detachment ol 600 men in Bog<it>
region.

In the Persian Market.
Wool.
There are colossal stores of wool in Persia. It has not been exported
abroad. Only last year the English took a portion of it to India for Avhich
they received a price of 700 krans per kharwar of 19 poods if unsorted and
1000 krans for cleaned, white wool. Latterly prices have begun to ^ decline.
The spring clip unsorted is worth 650 krans, compressed white wool 950 krans
or if mixed with a maximum of 30 per cent, down and back \arieties up to
900 krans per kharwar.
Cotton.
Despite unfavourable conditions the cotton stocks in Khorasan are con
siderable. In one district of Nishapur the stocks total 25,000 bales. The
price of hand-baled cotton is 250 krans per kharwar and machine baled 300
krans Many good which Khorasan and all Persia derived only from Russia
have completely disappeared from the market. The necessity ot these is
testified to by their prices. Window glass is 650-700 krans per case. _ tumblers
of European design are 12 krans each—others 5 krans. Table service is ot a
similar high value. There is particularly urgent need of galvanised iron and
tinned plate.
