committee of the party, completely destroyed its premises, and those of two
newspapers.”
That is the latest news from Menshevik quarters.
There are new fresh indications that the Georgian Mensheviks are surpass
ing in their bestialities the eminent Grand Dukes and Barons lately finished off
by the blows of the Red Army.
There is nothing wonderful in our having to hunt these Mensheviks for
they are the enemies of the working classes.
They have brilliantly proved this through the mouths of their own repre
sentatives.
If we hunt down these Yellow Socialists w T e shall preserve the proletariat
revolution.
The Mensheviks are hunting down the Communists and prove thereby
that they are the servants of the low class lackeys the bourgeoise.
The Georgian Communistic party is destroyed.
The Russian Communist party and working class of Soviet Russia are
not going to remain disinterested spectators of this.
We shall so pay these Mensheviks as to acquaint them once more with the
might of our iron fist. After that they will never pay again.
Nevertheless that is not everything.
It was not the Georgian leaders who organise the destruction of the
Georgian Communist party, but it was the Georgian Government which
adopted a resolution to seal depositories in Georgian territory. They sealed
two of ours and 27 military trains with goods for Soviet Russia. There are
bounds to every sort of impudence but evidently none to those of the Georgian
Mensheviks.
Quite recently they concluded a trade convention with us but now they
seized goods purchased by us.
There must necessarily be an end to such treachery.
The Whiteguard Governments of Poland, Latvia, Esthonia, and Einland
are bringing themselves into relationship with Soviet Russia which, in compa
rison to the Georgian Socialists is ideal.
We must present an ultimation to Menshevik Georgia either an
actual peace or the Red Army will cleanse Georgia of its Yellow
refuse which stinks in the nostril of Soviet Caucasus.
Soviet Russia and China.
The National Commissary for Poreign Affairs has addressed a note of
protest to the Chinese Government because of the hostile acts of Chinese
authorities with respect to the Tsentro-Soyuz.
At Ufa valuables belonging to this organisation have been seized by the
Chinese, horses carried of, safes broken open and several million roubles taken.
The servants of the Soyuz have also been arrested. On the frontier of Turkis-
tan the Chinese authorities have seized Soviet territory and have impressed the
inhabitants for irrigation work in the fields.
In their last note the Soviet Txovernment explains that it is sure of the
Chinese Government taking the necessary measures for the discontinuation
of similar disputes and an investigation of the circumstances arising
therefrom.
Yet another Lesson needed.
Soviet Russia has presented a not? to Menshevik Georgia consisting of
two provisions wherein our demands are outlined in clear and definite terms.
The majority of the demands appearing in the note do not appear for the
first time.

About this item

Content

The item consists of Part 1 of the subject file 1341/1921: 'Meshed Consular & Intelligence Diaries (1921-1922)'.

It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
