the Krishna works, but this has been found impracticable. A
supply can, however, be obtained by a storage lake on the
Tarla river, a tributary of the Krishna, and a project for this
is being matured. Other storage lake sites have been deter-
mined on, and projects will be prepared as soon as possible.
276a. The Municipality of Kurrar having asked this
department to assist them with a
Municipal Works. project for a supply of water to
their town, one has been prepared and sanctioned, and the
work is in progress. The source of the supply is to be the
new Krishna Canal, and a proper water rate will be paid to
that work.
277. Elaborate plans and estimates, the latter amount-
ing to Rs. 18,21,679, have been
prepared and forwarded to Go
vernment for the supply of water to the cantonments of
Poona and Kirkee and the town of Poona, for which sanction
is awaited. A further very extensive project is in prepara
tion, supplemental to the above, by which it is intended
to increase the contents of the storage lake, and carry from
it a canal of large size to water the Poona valley on the right
bank of the Moola Moota and Bheema rivers as far as the town
of Indapoor. This project involves an immense amount of
labour, as the canal will be 167 miles long with masonry
works in proportion. The preparation has been hindered
by the want of subordinate assistance, but is now going on
rapidly.
