PUBLIC WORKS—RAILWAY.
Mr. Victor, an agent of the contractors, was sent up to engage
the sub-contractors employed by Messrs. Norris and Weller or
to make other arrangements for carrying on the work without
delay. The work has since been progressing favourably.
The Nerbudda Viaduct approaches completion. The Sukkur
Viaduct is the great difficulty on this contract; it is very
backward, and will not probably be finished before 1869. With
this exception the contract may be completed to Jubbulpoor
by June 1868.
7. No. 18 contract, Sholapoor to Kulburga 70| miles.
This contract was let in England to Messrs. Adamson and
dowser, and work was commenced on the 30th August 1865.
The Boree Viaduct is the largest work on the contract, and
consists of 20*30 spans. The work has hitherto progressed
favourably.
8. No. 19 contract (88^ miles) was also let in England
to Messrs. Bray and Son, and ground will be broken in May
1866. The contract extends from Kulburgato Raichore,and
includes in its length a viaduct over the Kistna.
9. The fishing of the rails between Tanna and Bombay
is still in progress ; but it is considered more expeditious to
relay a considerable portion of both lines with pot sleepers.
Open Line.
10. The doubling the line between Cullian and Was-
sind is nearly complete, and between Wassind and Kussara,
where there is so much hard rock cutting, considerable pro
gress has been made.
11. On the open line two large stations have been com
pleted at Kurjut and Lanowlee, with accommodation for both
up and down lines.
12. A trial station was opened at Chinchwud between
Tulligaum and Kirkee and has proved successful.
