53. Sidings at Kakra-Kharee. —Government have
sanctioned the construction of sidings at Kakra-Kharee, J|-
miles south of Surat station, for marshalling goods trains*
This works is in progress.
54. Doubling Line f rom Surat to Amrolee. —Sanction
has also been given to the double line from Surat to Amrolee,
but this work will not be started till next season.
55. Bungalows at the Bassein, the Veturnee, and the
Nerbudda Bridges. —The construction of mechanics’ bunga
lows at the Bassein, the Veturnee, and the Nerbudda bridges
have also been sanctioned, but the work has not yet been
commenced.
56. Tmprove?nents at Stations. —Numerous improve
ments are being carried out at the various stations on the line,
among which may be enumerated:—The addition of eight
miles of sidings at stations. The provision of extra passenger
platforms at Mahim, Anund, Neriad, Mehmoodabad, Baragree,
and Surat. Complete engine watering arrangements at Now-
saree, Unclesur, Pallej, and Baroda. Permanent passenger
stations at Sucheen, Sayen, Panolee, Etola, and Baroda. Ad
ditions to existing passenger platforms sufficient to give 500
feet at 3rd and 4th class and 800 feet at 1st and 2nd class sta
tions. Screened urinaries for native passengers at all stations.
Pallisading round passenger platforms and goods yards. Goods
sheds at Anund and Wassud ; goods platforms at 3rd class
station south of Bulsar, &c. Considerable progress has been
made with all the above W'orks, and, except the Baroda
station, which is a large work, and will hardly be finished for a
year, almost all might be completed in two or three months.
57. Doubling superstructure on Iron Bridges. —The
second line of superstructure will have been erected, it is
hoped, before the rains set in across the Bassein, Veturnee,
Par, Nerbudda, Mhye, Watruck, and Meshwa bridges, 254
spans in all.
