and in 1859, 37. The late Sudder Dewanee Adawlut disposed of thirty-
three revenue appeals, remanding, reversing, or amending the original
decisions in twenty-five instances; but these figures seem to be of
unusual magnitude. In 1858, 1859, 1860, the revenue appeals admitted
were only in one case 6, in the others 5 in number. In 1861, 29 were
admitted, and in 1862 thirteen.

All the appeals from the Collector were special, and in none of the
former years which are noticed in the comparative tables sent in has there
been more than one case of a remand from the High Court, then the Sudder
Hewanee Adawlut, to the Collector’s Court. Of the whole number (2708)
of original suits decided in the Revenue Courts during the year, 2666 are
returned as connected with land-rent. Of those decided on their merits
(1693 in number), 1319 were given in favour of the plaintiff, the propor
tion of decisions in favour of the defendant being much larger than in the
case of the regular courts—*283 to less than T OO. The total value of suits
