Administration were under consideration by the Council of the Governor of nistration.
Bombay during 1862-63 :—
I. A Bill to abate the nuisance arising from the smoke of Fur
naces in the Islands of Bombay and Colaba.
II. It being desirable that the Municipalities in the Mofussil
should be placed under the control of the Police Commissioners, a Bill
was introduced to make the necessary amendments to the Municipal
Act XXVI. of 1850. This Bill was passed as Act IX. of 1862.
III. A Bill to regulate the Burial or disposal of the dead in the
town and suburbs of Bombay. This Bill was eventually withdrawn.
IV. A Bill for the Regulation of Public Conveyances in the
town, island, and harbour of Bombay. It was passed as Act
No. VI. of 1863.
V. A Bill to confer certain powers on the Bombay Gas Company,
Limited. This Bill is almost similar to Act V. of 1857, entitled “ An
Act to confer certain powers on the Oriental Gas Company, Limited,”
which Act is copied almost section for section from the English Act 10
and 11 Vic. C. 15.
VI. A Bill to provide for the management of the Vehar Water
Works. The object of this project was to enable the Government to
hand over the works at Vehar to the Municipal Commissioners of
Bombay, and to provide for their subsequent inspection by Government
officers. It had at the date of report been submitted for the assent of
the Governor General.
VII. A Bill for taking a census of the Bombay
Presidency
The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent.
