grade Anglo-vernacular, 116 vernacular, 17 night,, and 6 girls*
schools. The young E^ni and two daughters of Sardars are
being educated under a European lady, who reports well of their
progress.
There are three libraries in the town ; the largest, known as the
Native General Library, contains 2,211 volumes. In the districts
there are 8 reading-rooms and libraries on a small scale. There
are two printing presses and one vernacular paper is published.

The
Raja
King
of Mudhol completed his studies at the Rajkumar
College during the year and has since been reading with a tutor
at Kolhapur. His conduct is very favourably reported on. The
young Chief of Miraj (Senior) has been prosecuting his studies at
^ e iv/ri ^ c -[ 100 l Kolhapur. The Sub-Saranjamdar
o Mhysal studied for a single term at the Rajkumar College and
has since also joined the class at the Rajaram High School. The
m amt Chiefs of Junior Miraj and of Ramdurg are being brought
up by their natural guardians.
The revenue survey and assessment is in force in the Miraj
State (Senior branch), Mudhol State, and Mhysal State. For
am urg, Jamkhandi, and Miraj (Junior) it has been either
sanctioned or actually begun; but in Kurundvad (Senior and

an as been thrown up in the three surveyed States, and remains
was e, owing to the inability of the ryots to cultivate the land
alter their losses during the famine.

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1879-80. The report was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai] in 1880.
The report is divided into three parts. Part I comprises a report ‘SUMMARY’ (ff 9-55). Part II (ff 56-265) comprises chapters I-IX. Part III comprises ‘Statistical Returns’ pertaining to chapters I-VII and IX (ff 266-429).
