ADMINISTRA-
9 The Superintendent, Land Records and Registration, Central Division, conducted a TIO land TH:E
Qj aSS for Junior Civilians which was attended by 7 Civilians and 1 Deputy Collector.
Su T y garve y Classes for the training o£ newly appointed Circle Inspectors were opened at the
fa arter towns in each of the three divisions. After receiving instruction in the theoretical
head-q^ liea q.quarters the Circle Inspectors were taken for practical work into the districts
course operations were being conducted. The training was given as usual by permanent
under the supervision of the Superintendents of Land Records and Registration.
ThBoard of Examiners consisted of two Divisional Superintendents and the Director of Land
ag chairman. Ninety-five Circle Inspectors attended the classes of whom 80 passed the
^iwey test. Classes for Yillage Accountants were also held as usual. The preliminary test was

st ^ com pleted in 4 tfilukas and mahals in the Ranch Mahals and the Poona and Ratnagiri
TKtricts too^ether with 10 villages in the Bassein T41uka of the Thana District in which the
eviously prepared Record had been condemned as inaccurate. Promulgation took place in
talukds or pethds of the Thana, Ahmednagar, Nasik, Poona, Satdra and Ratndgiri
pistricts and in certain isolated groups of villages in the last named district and in Kaira.
The work of preparing and inspecting the Record of Rights and the Mutation Registers
^as conducted on the same lines as in the previous year.
4. During the year the experiment of measuring sub-divisions of survey numbers was Rot Hissa measure
continued in several districts of the Central and Southern Divisions. The work was carried out ment ‘
bv survey -trained Kulkarnis except in the districts of Poona and Ahmednagar, where pensioners
and measurers discharged from the Southern Maratha States Survey were employed. In the
Central Division the work was completed in 677 villages in the districts of East and West
Khandesh, A-hmednagar and Poona, and a commencement was made in a few villages of the
Safcara District. In the Southern Division measurement was carried on in 43 villages distri
buted among the Dharw£r, Bijdpur and Kolaba Districts.

1 . The usual Survey Class was attended by 1 Civilian, 1 Deputy Collector and 5 Mukh- Training- Classes.

Survey work or had not yet served with Survey Parties were required to join the latter for a
period long enough to secure their efficiency.
2. The compilation of the Record was completed in 4 talukas. It was commenced in Record of Rights.
5 talukas and in 3 others the work was still in progress at the end of the year. No fresh work
was undertaken in the Karachi District on account of the unfavourable season.

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1908-09.
The report is divided into two parts. Part I contains a report ‘SUMMARY’ (ff 73-86). Part II (ff 87-135) comprises chapters I-IX.
