1. The State was under the management of the Collector of Dharwar as Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. ,

2. The rainfall during the year was 29*28 inches against 17*06 last year. The season
was normal and the crops fairly good except jowari. Cotton crops, though normal, fetched
higher prices than usual during the year. The prices of food-grain were more or less the same
as in the year previous. The public health was on the whole good. Labour was dear during
the harvest season. The condition of agricultural stock was satisfactory.
3. The Police force consists of 45 men and officers. The number of offences reported
during the year was 69 against 40. The value of property stolen was Rs. 865 against Rs. 3,690
last year and that of property recovered was Rs. 539 against Rs. 276. The percentage of
recoveries of property stolen was 63’04 against 7'48.
4. Of a total of 139 persons brought to trial 39 were convicted and 100 acquitted or
discharged.
5. During the year 29 convicts and 35 under-trial*prisoners were admitted into the jail.
There was no casualty amongst the prisoners.
6. The number of suits on the file (33 balance plus 50 new) was 83 of which 55 were
disposed of during the year. Similarly of 57 decrees filed for execution 39 were disposed of
during the year.
7. Two hundred and six documents were registered. The value of the documents was
Rs. 46,278.
8. The expenditure on the Public Works was Rs. 16,247 against Rs. 21,560 in the preced
ing year.
9. There is only one Municipality at Savanur itself. The opening balance was Rs. 1,665.
The receipts and expenditure were Rs. 4,450 and Rs. 4,649 respectively. The year closed with
a balance of Rs. 1,466. > e J
10. The opening balance was Rs. 2,75,671 of which Rs. 2,30,600 are in Government
Promissory Notes. The year's revenue amounted to Rs. 1,10,836 and the expenditure to
Rs. 1,10,712, the closing balance being Rs. 2,75,795 including investments.

11. The Savanur Dispensary treated 8,419 out-door and 39 in-door patients,
thousand eight hundred and six came from adjoining British villages.
12. Six hundred and fifty-five births and 412 deaths were registered against 634 and 35
respectively during the preceding year. The number of persons vaccinated was 764 against 7o •
13. One new school was opened during the year rnakino- in all 17 schools. The da^
average attendance was 880 against 815, the total number of pupils being 1,257 against
Ine expenditure incurred was Rs. 8,935 agamst Rs. 8,118.
