g erv ice Corps now comprises a body of 57 men while the Baggage and Camel Corps is composed
of 73 baggage and 32 riding camels.
4 The Police force numbered 255, an increase of 25, and the cost was Rs. 48,783, Police,
an increase of Rs. 1,891. In 288 reported offences, 294 persons were arrested and 290
s^nt up f° r trial. The percentage of convictions to the number of accused sent for trial
was 65'86 against 68*42 in the preceding year. The value of property stolen was Rs, 14,944
while the percentage of recoveries decreased from 57*25 to 45*93.
The number of Criminal Courts during the year was 15 as in the preceding year. The

total number of offences reported increased from 888 to 926. One thousand eight hundred
and ninety-three persons were tried, the percentage of convictions being 22*77 against 25‘5 7
in the last year. There were 31 criminal appeals. In 21 cases the decision was upheld, in 3
reversed and in 1 modified. In two cases further inquiry was called for and 4 appeals remained
undisposed of at the end of the year.
6. In the two jails the inmates numbered 370, a decrease of 26. The cost of main
tenance was Rs. 9,285 against Rs. 12,314 in the last year.
7. The number of Civil Courts was the same as last year, viz., 16. The number of suits
filed during the year fell from 1,980 to 1,971. Including arrears there were 2,735 suits for
disposal, of which 1,930 were disposed of compared with 1,850 during the previous year. There
was a total of 222 appeals for disposal compared with 238 for the last year, of which 128
were disposed of.
8. The number of documents registered decreased from 366 to 218 and the fees from
Rs, 2,601 to Rs. 1,502.
9. The forest revenue during the year amounted to Rs. 30,829 against Rs. 62,882 in the
previous year. The decrease was due to less sale of firewood than in the past year.
10. The total amount spent on Public Works was Rs. 2,69,648 compared with Rs. 2,41,420
in the previous year.
11. The gross revenue of the State, excluding jdgirs, amounted to Rs. 16,71,183, an.
increase of Rs. 2,39,564. The expenditure amounted to Rs. 16,57,831 against Rs. 15,77,140
iu the preceding year, shewing an increase of Rs. 80,691, chiefly due to personal expenses of His
Highness and expenditure on the installation ceremony.
12. Including the veterinary hospital there are 4 hospitals and 5 dispensaries in the
State. Besides these, His Highness* camp dispensary was opened from the commencement Ox. tie
year. The number of the out-door patients was 147,000 against 1,55,261 in the previous y ear *

Medical stores supplied last year. Seven thousand four hundred and forty-two amma s were
heated at the veterinary dispensary compared with 10,430 in the previous yeai. e num m 0

13. The number of births decreased by 326 to 1,117 and the number of deaths by. 231

14. One village school at Mian Khan in the Khairpur Taluka was closed owing to
^satisfactory attendance. On the other hand, a Hindu Girls* School was opened in Khairpur.

Annual administration report of the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. , providing a summary record of the main events and developments in each department of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. during the financial year 1909-10.
