(^) t —CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
173. Shipping cases and offences of a cognizable nature occurring within
_ ^ , civil limits at Steamer Point were disposed of by the
Locality of Courts. Magistrate residing there ; all other cases were dis
posed of in the Crater, where one of the Magistrates sits daily. The Special
Magistrate of the Third Class at Shaikh Othman disposes of petty cases arising
there, and not of sufficient importance to send into Aden for trial.

Sessions trials.
On an average two cases were tried by the Court of Sessions during
each year; the extreme penalty of the law was
inflicted on three persons within the last ten years.
177. The Resident disposed of 12 appeals on an average yearly during the
Appeals, last ten years from the judgments of the lower Courts.
178. During the last ten years the Court receipts averaged Ps. 12,024,
Bevenne and expenditure and the expenditure, being the pay of the establishment
of Courts. from the Registrar downwards, averaged Rs. 11,024.
179. On an average Rs. 375 were realized per annum by sale of Court-fee
stamps for plaints and processes, since the Small
Cause Court was established in December, 1886.
