183. In cognizable cases there has been a decrease in offences affecting
*' Property ” and offences under “ Special and Local Laws ” and a slight increase
under “ Coins ” and “ Government stamps ” and under “ Public Health.” With
the exception of two cases, one of attempt to murder, in which the accused was
acquitted, and the other of committing culpable homicide not amounting to
murder, in which the accused was convicted of voluntarily causing hurt, there
were no offences of a very serious nature, and the highest punishment inflicted
was of two years’ rigorous imprisonment.
184. In non-cognizable cases there has been a decrease of 17 cases and
two offender®. The decrease was general, except in offences under Chapter
XXII, in which there was an increase of 21 cases and 33 offenders for insult,
criminal intimidation, &c.
185. 13 European and 75 native seamen were brought up for refusal of
duty, assaulting officers, desertion, &c. Of these, 8 Europeans and 68 natives
were convicted, and the others were acquitted and discharged.
186. On the whole the crime in Aden during the year under report was
much below the average for the last 17 years, which is as follows :—
