The amount of business done is considerable. Ihe steam communication
established with the Somali Coast for a monthly subsidy (including Perim) of
Rs. 600 has greatly increased postal facilities.
405. The value payable system was introduced into Aden in 1892 and is
much appreciated. No less than 1,143 value payable
parcels were delivered in Aden in the first year.
406. Sanction was accorded in 1891 to the inland rates of postage between

General remarks.
Aden has become a most important postal centre, and a large
establishment is entertained owing to the many
international Postal Union obligations the department
incurs by the geographical position of the place.

408. Of changes and improvements which have occurred during the past
year the following may be mentioned
409. Arrangements were made for the posting of registered articles at
certain hours on Sundays when the mail from Europe
by Peninsular and Oriental packet is expected early
on Mondays.
410. This system, as mentioned above, was introduced from 1st April
1892. 1,143 articles were delivered and 53 posted
alne payable system. w ith a total declared value of Rs. 14,034.
411. The inland insurance system was also introduced from 1st April
1892, and 751 articles were dealt with of a value of

412. Eight-hundred and thirty-three accounts were opened and 517 were
closed or transferred. The value of security deposits

413. The Khor Maksar Office was opened on 1st April 1892 and in June
the money order system was made available there
