155. No changes. A soldiers’ and sailors’ institute at Steamer Point,
erected through the exertions of the chaplain, has been

well, being now in a position to pay its own way,— a fact attributed to the
interest taken by the Reverend A. O. Walsh.

156. The receipts on account of sale of vegetables amounted to Rs. 6,611
against Rs. 6,451 the previous year, or an increase of
Lahej Garden. psjg. rpp^ eX p eilc pture was Rs. 3,057 against
Rs. 2,910, showing an increase of Rs. 147. The cause of increase in expenditure
was owing to the enclosure and cultivation of an extra slip of land taken in, re
novation of the vineyard, and entertainment of an Egyptian gardener with passage
from Suez.
The profits are represented by Rs. 3,553, or still an increase over previous
year, when they were Rs. 3,540.
70,421f lbs. of vegetables were sold, against 68,497 lbs. in the previous year.

The report is addressed, in a covering memorandum, by Brigadier-General Francis Loch, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , Aden, to the Secretary to the Government, Bombay, 21 May 1879. The report was printed at the Government Central Press, Bombay [Mumbai].

Tables indicating the number of square miles of the peninsula of Aden under the control of the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. , and relating to the civil divisions of Aden and the population is on folio 160. A table of contents listing the Chapter numbers and headings of Part II is on folio 161 (‘chapter’ is not used in the main body of the report). This is followed by a name, place and subject index are on folio 162.
The covering memorandum indicates that a Subsidiary Sanitary Report is also attached, however this is not present in this copy.
