ti e revenue of Tangistan, viz, Krans 15,000. His Excellency, however, is stated to
have asked for Krans 20,000 and to have promised the Zayir a force to collect the
amount for himself, in the event of his compliance. Zayir Khadhir s agent is said
to have paid 1,700 tomans to the Finance Department on account ol revenue.
194. Jamal Khan is reported to have interviewed Shaikh Hussam Chah
Kutahi at the village of ’ Ali Changi and asked him to go to Ahram to induce ayir
Khadhir to pay revenue, viz., tomans, 7,000 for which the Zayir was stated to have
riven a bond to the Governor-General of Ears. Shaikh Hussain who apparently
considered it wiser not to involve himself, left Jamal Khan under s0 ™ e
wrote to him from Chah Kutah not to wait for him Jamal Khan then left Ahram
and proceeded to Dashti without having recovered anything. It is said, that the
Dashti people having refused to pay revenue, Jamal Khan ordered his sowars and
sarbazes to enforce payment. The men refused to obey orders and asked their
petty officers in Bushire for reinforcements. A _ detachment of sarbazes left
Bushire on 13th instant to reinforce them. On their way the Commanding Othcer
pressed the Kadkhuda of Chaghadak for payment of revenue The latter implored
the Governor of Bushire to order the sarbazes not to press him, and promised to
come to Bushire and pay the amount due. His Excellency granted the request
and th$ Kadkhuda has come to Bushire.
195. (a) Jamal Khan has been asked by the Finance Department to recover
the last three years’ revenue, but the Governor of Bushire is said to have asked
him to press for payment of the amounts due for the past two years only.
(6) Five sowars have come from Dashti with 1,100 tomans ou account of
revenue which has been paid to the Finance Department.
(c) It is reported that the forts which had been built by the villagers in Dashti
have been demolished by the troops.
(d) It is reported that the heads of Dashti are now making no difficulties in
paying revenue. This seems to show that the presence of the troops is having the
desired effect.
196 Shaikh Hussain Chah Kutahi arrived in Bushire during the first week of
the month and left for Karbala. It is said that the reason of his leaving Chah
Kutah is that he fears the Khans of Burazjan, Dahki and Zayir Khadhir may rise
against the Gendarmerie and that he does not wish to be implicated in such a move-
ment.
197. It is reported that in future the Persian post will arrive in Bushire from Coadition of
Shiraz eyery three days and will be escorted by a guard of Gendarmerie. graphs.

198. Mr. J. G. Lorimer, C.I.E., I.C.S., Officiating Political Resident in the HisM^ Ro-
Persian Gulf died on the 8th instant. Death was due to the accidental discharge
ofT antomatic pistol. The funeral took place on the afternoon of the following
dav. Bv the kind courtesy of the Senior Naval Officer and the Officer Comman
ing the Troops at Bushire, a firing party of blue jackets and marines was la nde
from H M S. <£ Fox ” and the route lined by the 102nd (King Edward s Own)
Grenadiers bv the men of which regiment the coffin was drawn to the cemetery
preceded by the Residency escort and also, at the special request of Monsieur
Loiko, the Acting Russian Consul-General, by the Russian Cossack Consular Guard.
The funeral ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Governor and local
authorities, the Consular Corps, the whole of the European community as well as by
large numbers of the local Persian inhabitants testifying to the universal respect
felt by all members of the community towards the deceased and the great popularity
he had earned during the short period of his incumbency.
The Persian School was closed for the half day on the 10th instant out of respect
to the memory of the late Mr. Lorimer.
