With reference to his telegram
dated 28 th July, asks how negoeia-
tions for obtaining lease of Bunder
Ahbass for Syud Toorkee • have pro
gressed. Suggests that Hajee Ahmed’s
defalcations may dispose Shah to •
accept good officers for Toorkee.
In reply to Viceroy’s telegram of
8th says that nothing is yet settled,
and that some delay is occasioned by
the absence of the Persian Secretary,
who is especially cognizant of these
matters. Asks if Syud Toorkee would
be prepared to send an agent there
to negociate and conclude terms of
lease.
Bequests him to ask Colonel Belly
if Syud Toorkee would he prepared
to send an agent to Teheran to nego
ciate lease of Bunder Ahhass.
Bemarks. with reference to this
Office cipher telegram of the 26th,
that Colonel Belly telegraphs that
Syud Toorkee would gladly send an
agent to Teheran if he had reason
to expect that the mission would
prove successful.
Porwards a telegram from Colonel
Pelly, stating that Syud Toorkee will
not incur expense of sending an
Agent to Teheran, unless he is cer
tain of a successful issue to mission.
With reference to his telegram
dated 10th September, forwards a
copy of papers relative to distur
bances at Bunder Abbass. Considers
that this circumstance may have the
effect of causing the Persian Governor
to look with even a more favorable
eye than they at present seem to do
upon Syud Toorkee’s negociations to
obtain a renewal of the lease o
Bunder Abbass.
