you as regards your enemies. The Pasha has sent to Bagdad for reinforcements,
and you also can collect many Arab fighting men.
As regards Abdullah bin Pysul, his messenger has arrived with news that
he is at Howeyzeh, and that Kahtan is with him. His intention is to come to ,
Lahsa. The Effendi has sent to the Kusseem tribe to give Abdullah as much money ^
as he may stand in need of. Saood is at Biaz, hut powerless. You know that I am
careful of what may give you loss. Inshallah ! you will soon receive good news.
I am sorry to hear you have lost Eaad, and sympathize with you.

Translated purport of a letter (almost unintelligible in parts) from Mahomed bin Fysul to
Jassim bin Mahomed bin Sanee.
Received in a letter from Sheik Esau bin Ali al Khuleefa on 1st September 1871.
I have received your letter and understood its contents. I have written to
you by every cossid, hut my letters must have miscarried. In regard to what
you desire of Imam Abdullah, these are important requests. You are beloved by
us. May God reward you. On seeing the Imam I will see what money I can
send you, and affairs will, Inshallah ! be put right.
Sheik Abdul Malek will meet you, and he will arrange what is necessary.
I was pleased to hear that you had forbidden the Ejman from passing to
and fro; you may be sure that it is dangerous to trust

them, it even they give you assurances.
Two ships of the Government will come shortly, containing troops who are
under your orders to proceed by land, and the powerful will soon become weak.
In regard to the Imam and Saood, the latter joined Kahtan; their last battle
took place at Koweyna, and he was killed. I am awaiting intelligence. Saood
has gone to Biaz.
The Ejman are at Khorj; most of them have not returned.

Received in a letter from Sheik Esau bin Ali al Khuleefa on 1st September 1871.
We received your letter, understood its contents, and were glad for your
welfare.
In regard to the letters alluded to, we have to inform you that no messen
ger going to you ever left this without a letter from us ; it may he that our
letters did not reach you.
In regard to the other matters required from the Imam Abdoollah, these
are of great import to us ; hut when we considered the expenses that
would he incurred in going to the Imam Inshallah will he will
come, and affairs will be put to right Sheik Ahdool Malek will wait
on you, and the matter will he arranged at his hands.
In regard to the Ejman, whom you state you have prevented having* any
intercourse with you, this is what is expected from you, for they are of no o*ood *
and if they even made peace with you you should not trust them.
Inshallah! when it please (Government) tw r o of the Government vessels
will come to you with troops, who will he under your orders to move inland
In regard to the Imam, after his battle with Saood he went with Kahtan.
The last battle was at Kowaiyeh. We expect his coming. Saood reached Biadh
