I have the honor to forward, for submission to His Excellency the Eight
Nos. 46 to 49 , dated 26 tii September 1871. Hon’hle the Viceroy in Council, copies of des
patches, as per margin, which I have addressed to

In continuation of my despatch No. 42, dated 30th ultimo, I have the honor
to report that, on the 14th instant, His Excellency Midhut Pasha, received a tele
gram from Nasir Pasha, Sheikh of the Montifik, announcing his having effected
the capture of Abdool Kureem, the rebel Sheik of the Shammar Arabs.
It is considered that this arrest puts an end to the revolt of the tribe whose
members will now come in and place themselves under Perhan Pasha.
Nasir Pasha is said to have despatched Abdool Kureem to Bagdad under
the charge of one of his sons, and they are supposed to be coming up the river
in the Ottoman Steam boat Moosul, but nothing is known of her movements,
and it seems probable that the authorities will desire to keep them so far as possi
ble secret with the view to guarding against any attempt at a rescue which in
the present state of the river is to be apprehended.

In continuation of my despatch No. 43, dated 30th ultimo, I regret to
eport that the irritation between the Persian Consulate and the Ottoman
uthorities continue to increase, and both parties appear to desire to press
latters to extremities.
With reference to the above despatch, I have received intelligence from
[ermanshah, from a source which I have reason to deem reliable, that Ah
Lkbur Khan, Governor of Jewanrood and Koordistan invited Mahomed Syed
ultan, the Ooraman Chief, whose murder I therein reported, with his son and
rother to a marriage feast; that they went in perfect confidence accompanied by
nly two servants, and that during the night he caused them to be killed.
Mv informant also states that the Hamawands, whose depredations cause so
reat evil to the surrounding inhabitants, as well as to travellers, are constantly
ecomino* more aggressive, that there is no safety m Kermanshah and the
eighhouring country in consequence of the constant robberies and murders
ommitted by them, and that the local authorities are worn out by the daily
omplaints which are presented against these people over whom they can exercise
o sort of control; that they have even taken forcible xiossession of land belong-
io* to others claiming it as their own hereditary property; that the local Gorem-
icnt has repeatedly endeavoured to move superior authorities to adopt some
leasures torehedy this evil, but without result, no instructions whatever being
