I have received your friendly letters and duly read them. I regret to
learn that you are not quite well, and that I should miss seeing you.
I have to proceed elsewhere, hut hope on return to have the honor o^
visiting you. *^§

News brought last night by merchants from Lahsa through Ojair.
They say that Eereck Pasha after occupying Lahsa remains there with his
army; he has given Aman to the people of the country.
Some of the Lahsa people that had claims against Saood bin Pysul and
who had been seized by Saood, and taxed without justice, complained to Pereck
Pasha. The Pasha promised them justice.
Pereck Pasha wrote to the Pasha at Bagdad that he had taken Lahsa, and
the people were pleased, but that it was not immediately possible to proceed to
Biadh, as the heat was great, and there was not much water on the road; that
it would be needful to wait until the cool season.
This letter was sent by special despatch to Kuteef, and Ibrahim Beg, the
Governor, was ordered to forward it at once to Busreh.
Por the last 20 days no news whatever has been received of Saood
or Abdullah. The cause would seem to he that the latter fled and Saood is
pursuing him, hut no one seems to know where they are gone to. The forces
formerly with Saood have fallen off, the cause being that they had hopes of
getting something out of Lahsa, hut Lahsa has now been taken by the Pasha,
and at Biadh there is not enough to satisfy them. Purther, they now think the
Ottoman Government will eventually take Biadh.
Saood again has no money, and many have claims against him. At present
the family of Pysul seem out of Biadh, and were the Turkish forces to
march upon it they might take it without opposition. The Nejd people
appear at present in favour of the Turkish rule, as they receive such excellent
promises.
Similarly persons from Kuteef state that Ibrahim Beg received a despatch
from Pereck Pasha, and forwarded it at once to Pao.

I have the honor to inform you that, after communicating with Major
Sidney Smith at Bahrein, I proceeded to Biddah, at which place I found the
Turkish flag flying. I had an interview with Bin Tani, the Chief; he informed
me that a Turkish steamer, with troops on board, had arrived off Biddah with
a Koweit boat; the boat came into the harbour, bringing a Koweit Chief and a
Turkish officer with a letter from the Turkish Governor (qy.), a Turkish flag
was given to the Chief of Biddah, and he was told that he must hoist it, or else
they would fight him, he, therefore, hoisted the flag to keep the peace.
