Translated purport of a letter from Mirza Abool Cassim, Moonshee, to Resident in the Persian
Gulf.
Apteii writing Sheik Esau sent for me and said, the person who killed my
father has been killed by my brothers on their ascertaining he was a Beni Hajjir
and one of the murderers of my father; that he found letters from Nassir bin
Mobarek and others to the address of Jassim bin Mahomed bin Sanee; that he
had sent the letters to you, but that there was a letter from Eereck Pasha for
Jassim bin Mahomed bin Sanee.
I told the Sheik that Eereck Pasha’s letter had better remain intact and
be sent to its destination, but that as regards other matters it did not concern
me.

Translated purport of a letter from Sheik Esau bin Ali al Khuleefa, Chief of Bahrein,
to Resident, Persian Gulf.
I wrote to you all the intelligence. I am now in perfect security, and my
islands and territory safe.
It has now become necessary for me to inform you that among the boats
passing from Ojair a messenger from Nassir bin Mobarek secretly arrived with
letters from Nassir and his party. I sent some persons to enquire whether this
was a fact, and found it to be true. My brothers, the sons of Ali bin Khuleefa,
seized the messenger, and knew him to be one of the Beni Hajjir tribe and one
of the murderers of my father, Ah bin Khuleefa; they hastened to kill him
as soon as they discovered him to be one of the murderers of my father, and
before the news reached me.
They found on him letters from Nassir bin Mobarek to Jassim bin Mahomed
bin Sanee, and a letter from the Pasha. I enclose the letters from Nassir bin
Mobarek and his party, from which you will learn their intentions.
I did not open the seal of the Pasha’s letter, but sent it to Jassim sealed.
I thought it necessary to inform you of this circumstance at once.

Received in a letter from Sheik Esau bin Ali al Khuleefa on 1st September 1871.
I have received your letter and understood its contents. I showed your
letter to my master, Fereck Pasha, hut before receiving your letter he was friendly
