Ar Ruweis, Khor Hassan, and Morehr (close to Znbara).—

The above-mentioned places are all on the coast of Al Katr
Promontory,
Al Ojair. —Al Ojair is on the mainland S.W. of Bahrein
Island. It is a seaport of little importance.f The fort—of
which no description is available—stands in the desert.
In 1902, 100 infantry were sent to Al Ojair from Basra via
Al Katif.
Duhat Thalnm. —In the bight of this bay, N. of Al Ojair, is
the ruined fort Ivureya.
Dammdm. — An important town on the mainland, about
30 miles W.N.W. of Bahrein harbour.
The principal fort lies on an island on the shore reef, nearly
joined to the mainland. There is a tall tower, with a flagstaff
in the centre of the work, which is visible 10 miles.
A smaller fort (together with the rest of the town) is situated
on the mainland close by.
The strength of the Turkish garrison is not known.
* The various " forts " are, in most cases, indicated on this chart, but
are shown more clearly on Chart 7 of N.I.D. Report 458 (Turkey, Coast
Defences, <6c.). Neither the places nor the " forts," however, appear to be
of much value. Detailed descriptions of the coast will be found in the
" Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Pilot."
f See footnote, p. 20. A report of June 1903 mentions a fort at Ojair,
on the Khor, described as a " well built low structure," armed with two
or three rusty guns. There is a well built jetty at the fort, 150 yards
long, with 2 or 3 feet of water at the end.

Much of the information was extracted from the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Report, 1898.

There are details on Muscat; Mussandam Promontory; Khor Kawi [Khawr al Quway‘], Elphinstone Inlet [Khawr ash Shamm], Khasab; Pirate Coast; Bahrain; Kuwait; Fao [Al Fāw]; Basra; Bushire; Lingah; Bundar Abbas [Bandar Abbas].

Also included is an 'Official statement of British Policy with regard to (1) the proposed Baghdad Railway; and (2) Persia and the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. generally' given in the House of Lords, May 5, 1903.

Maps include: rough sketch of operations in the vicinity and Bushire from the 3rd to the 10th February 1857 (Reproduced from Outram's Persian Campaign 1857); sketch of the attack on the batteries of Mohumra [Khorramshahr]: combined naval and military forces under command of Sir James Outram; sketch of the ground in the neighbourhood of Ahwaz [Ahvāz] on the Karun [Kārūn], showing the position occupied by the Persian Army, and the advance of the British detachment upon the town, March 1857.
