is a separate place made ready near the customs. As to the arrangements of the
Government of H. M. of Great Britain about the tax of fees particular to its subjects,
and among the subjects of the Great Powers and the fact that it has arranged
for your friend instead of this Rs. 300/-monthly, (jcd is a witness for your
friend that he never likes to oppose, on the contrary, the Government of His
Britannic Majesty likes that I should speak frankly to your Excellency who has
often assisted me and I always remember and thank it. And as I know your
Excellency to be a friend and the circumstances of the Great Government make
it incumbent upon me (to state). I say that this arrangement is injurious to
the good name of the Government of your friend among the Arab rulers in the
Gulf. But what appears to the view of your friend (is) to continue the tax as
it is. But when the Great Government requests your friend to concede this,
your friend meets this request with great pleasure. And I hope that you are in
perfect health.

MAY YOUR HONOUR CONTINUE, AMEN.
Salutations, blessings and favours of God on you. Then in connection
with our conversation tc-day, I state to your Highness that the Order of His
Britannic Majesty in Council will come in force in Bahrein on Monday the 3rd
February 1919 corresponding to the 1st of Jumada Sani 1337. It is necessary to
do according to the
Order in Council
A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council.
so that the Courts of Bahrein may be brought
to the le\ el of all the British Courts in the Gulf and as it will appear, it does not
in any way tend to the alteration or decrease of the power or the influence of
your Highness. But on the contrary it increases your Honour. This affair
confined to the Biitish subjects and the foreigners about whcm your Highness has
agreed to put theii affairs in the hands of the Government of Britannic Majesty.
(1) Whosoever disobeys or does not observe any treaty executed
between your Highness or your predecessors or successors and
His Majesty of Great Britain, will be considered an Offender.
(“) ^ questions relating particularly to the local customs will be
referred to the ordinary Court (“ Majlisi Urfi”) as previously.
