V.—From Bandar Abbas to Teheran via Kerman,
Yezd, and Kashan. 876 miles. 50 stages.
Sections.
(a.) From Bandar Abbas to Kerman via Baft.
289 miles. 18 stages.
Practicable fcr baggage-animals but unsuited for
wheeled traffic. Donkeys are generally used on this
section for the transport of merchandise. Water and
supplies scarce as far as Daolatabad.
(b.) Kerman to Yezd via Bahramabad.
211 miles. 12 stages.
A level road, practicable for all arms and for wheeled
transport, but water and supplies are scarce. Camel
grazing is procurable at most stages.
(c.) Yezd to Teheran. 376 miles. 20 stages.
A good and level road, suitable for wheeled transport
throughout. Between Nain and Kao Gumhaz (16 miles)
the water supply is scarce and brackish, elsewhere sweet
water is obtainable from wells along the route. Supplies
are also scarce between Yezd aml Kain.
N.B.—From Yezd a road leads to Isfahan via the
Zindah Rud. Distance, Yezd to Isfahan, 186 miles.
10 stages. It is practicable for all arms, but would be
difficult for wheeled artillery owing to the number of
ditches which must be crossed. Water is procurable
from streams and kanats, but supplies are scarce.
The more usual route is that via Kuhpa, leaving the
main Yezd-Kashan road at Kao Gumbaz, from which
place the distance to Isfahan is 108 miles.
