(vii) The Naib-uI-Hukumeh has ordered his supply clerk to buy one thousand
hharwars of barley for the Government Supply Godown. There is a large amount
there already and the reason of the fresh purchase cannot be understood.
{viii) Instructions have been received from Kabul that there shall be two
magazines instead of one in Herat as previously ordered.
(ix) Seven Russians arrived in Herat from Russia via Chahildukhteran
Three remain including one doctor, the remainder proceed to Kabul. The party
has three rifles with it. Of the other two, one is a supply clerk and the other a
Kavkazi acting as an interpreter.
(x) A kafila A train of travellers; a caravan; or any large party of travellers. of Barbaris has requested permission to proceed on its way to
Meshed. Sanction has been withheld owing to present circumstances in Khorasan.
{xi) The Naib Salar inspected the Kabuli Jadidi Cavalry on the 8th and
discharged about 80 of all ranks.
(xii) On the 9th the Naib-ul-Hukumeh received a letter from Shuja-ul-Mulk.
The messenger returned immediately. It is believed Shuja-ul-Mulk reported he
had been defeated and requested to be supplied with arms and ammunition.
(xiii) A cypher telegram from Shaikh Junaid (Kushk) was sent to Herat by
Colonel Abdul Rahim Khan to be decoded. No one was able to do this and the
document was sent to Kabul.
(xiv) A large number of unemployed Russians is coming with the relieved
Bolshevik Minister from Kabul and by order of the Amir.

The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
